Study sites: Apennines
pond: La Pianca

Site description: Several ponds have been studied in Apennines Mountains, Italy. They are located in Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, and Calabria.

Study species: Alpine newts Mesotriton alpestris apuanus and M. a. inexpectatus (paedomorphs - individuals retaining gills at the adult stage, and metamorphs - metamorphosed adult individuals), Lissotriton vulgaris & Triturus carnifex

Reasearch topics: age structure, feeding habits, space use, effect of food on metamorphosis.
