Study site: Pindos

Tymphi

Site description: Pindos is a mountain range in the north-west of Greece. Several lakes and ponds are present in the massif, among which the Drakolimni (= Dragon lakes) in Tymphi et Smolikas mountains.

Study species: mainly Greek Alpine newts Mesotriton alpestris veluchiensis (paedomorphs - individuals retaining gills at the adult stage, and metamorphs - metamorphosed adult individuals), but also other amphibian species (e.g. Triturus macedonicus, Lissotriton vulgaris, Bombina variegata).

Research topics: distribution range, habitat characteristics, aquatic and terrestrial feeding habits, space use, age structure.
