Locality description: The main study site is « Mexican Cut », a nature preserve located in the Rocky Mountains (Gunnison county, Colorado, USA) at a few miles from the Rocky Mountain Biological
Laboratory (RMBL). This is a high-elevation system (11200 feet) composed of many permanent and temporary ponds. Several other ponds and lakes are also studied in Gunnison county: e.g., Kettle ponds.
Study species: tiger-salamanders Ambystoma
tigrinum nebulosum (paedomorphs - individuals retaining gills at the adult stage, metamorphs - metamorphosed adult individuals, and cannibals - larvare with large head and teeth).
Research topics: optimal foraging, prey-predator interactions, habitat selection, movements (CMR), proximate mechanisms of paedomorphosis and cannibalism
