Bassin de la Vesdre

Site description : Vesdre River flow from the highlands of Belgium in Parc Naturel des Hautes Fagnes at proximity of Germany and ends in Ourthe River in Chênée (Liège). The Basin is located in two main agricultural landscapes : Pays de Herve on the right side of Vesdre River and Ardenne on the left side.

Study species : Alpine newt Mesotriton alpestris, palmate newt Lissotriton helveticus, smooth newt Lissotriton vulgaris, crested newt Triturus cristatus, common frog Rana temporaria, green frogs Pelophylax synklepton esculentus, common toad Bufo bufo, natterjack toad Bufo calamita and midwife toad Alytes obstetricans. Perhaps also the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata).

Study aims : geographic distribution (atlas) and habitat determinants of local amphibians to apply efficient conservation measures.
